Features

Follow your curiosity through history.

  1. Explore a 3D globe

    Drag to rotate and pinch to zoom. Tap a marker or region to learn more about the places behind historical events.

  2. Move through time

    Choose a year from 1200 to 2026, or play through the 12 included map dates. Pause whenever something catches your eye.

  3. Compare two dates

    Switch between A and B on a globe facing the same direction. Compare the included regions and events from two dates.

  4. Trace cities and routes

    Explore 14 cities and 5 voyage and trade routes, with locations, background information and sources.

  5. Search and follow connections

    Search events, cities and routes across the collection. Event details connect background information, related people, other events and sources.

  6. Keep exploring offline

    The historical collection and translations are included in the app. No account is needed. Opening external source pages requires internet access.

A starting point for discovery.

Territories and routes are simplified for learning. The collection presents selected examples, rather than exact borders for every year or a complete record of world history.

If your chosen year has no map, the app shows the most recent included map from that year or earlier and identifies its date.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use it without internet?
Yes. You can explore the included maps, events, cities and routes offline. Internet access is required when you open an external source page.
Which languages are supported?
Japanese, English, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. The app follows your iPhone's preferred language or per-app language setting. Arabic supports right-to-left layouts.
Why can the map date differ from the selected year?
You can choose any year from 1200 to 2026, but maps are included for 12 dates. For other years, the most recent included map from that year or earlier is used. The selected year and map date are shown separately.

Privacy

Your exploration stays on your device.

History Globe uses historical data bundled with the app. No account registration is required.

Data handled by the app

The app does not collect or send personal information, your current location, advertising identifiers, search terms or browsing history. It contains no advertising, tracking or external analytics SDKs. Your chosen date, search and globe position are used to display the app.

Source links and Apple services

Opening a source link takes you to an external website, whose privacy policy applies. Apple's privacy rules apply to App Store downloads and diagnostic information handled according to your operating system settings.
